Current priorities for Acle Neighbourhood
1. Freethorpe – To address anti-social behaviour by youths at the village hall. Behaviour includes shouting, screaming and revving of vehicle engines.
2. Lingwood – To address anti-social behaviour by drunken youths resulting in minor criminal damage.
Your next meeting to agree local priorities will be on;
9th Sep 2009 19:30
All local residents are welcome to come along to meet the team and raise any concerns they have at the next Safer Neighbourhood Action Panel meeting on Wednesday 9 September 2009, being held at 7.30pm at Freethorpe village hall. This meeting is open to all members of the public within the Acle Neighbourhood and will provide an opportunity for local residents to voice their concerns about issues in their area which affect them, which in turn dictates which issues become our main focus.
Actions taken for Acle Neighbourhood
Monthly update for Acle - May 2009
- The Broads Beat was launched on Tuesday 19 May. The team patrols 125 miles of navigable rivers during the high season (April-October) to make the Broads a safer place.
- Crimes: A series of criminal damage to motor vehicles caused by ball bearings being fired from a catapult.
- A male was arrested for theft of fish from a lake and was dealt with through Restorative Justice.
Actions taken against the previous priorities raised by the community:
1. Anti-social behaviour at the medical centre in Acle has seen a significant decrease since becoming a priority. A crime prevention survey was carried out on the premises which provided several ideas how to improve security and deter such activity. Officers from the Acle team stepped up patrols in the area both during the day and night and engaged with youths who were in the vicinity, reminding them of their responsibilities and respect for others. The Acle team has worked closely with the surgery and will continue to monitor the situation but felt the priority could be dropped.
2. Youths in Freethorpe continue to congregate at the village hall. The police have carried out regular patrols in the area, which is part of their daily taskings for both local officers as well as response. Youths have been spoken to, to warn them about their behaviour and on occasions youths and vehicles have been searched.3. To address anti-social bahaviour by youths congregating in the car park and park area opposite to the village hall on Station Road, Lingwood.
The team has carried out high visibility patrols. Educated those who were causing the problems about how their behaviour affects local residents. Work has been carried out with youth club workers to try and encourage youths to attend the club instead of congregating outside. The SNT has used enforcement including street cautions for drug possession and stop and account/search powers. Bollards were erected in the car park at the village hall which helped ease the problem.

Crime Mapping
Norfolk Constabulary has introduced crime maps so you can see the levels of crime where you live. In comparison with most other police services, Norfolk records very low levels of crime. The crime is categorised on a map of Norfolk according to burglary, robbery, vehicle crime, violence, anti-social behaviour and all crime. Simply type in your postcode or click on the map to see the levels of crime in your district and ward. The maps are updated monthly and compare recorded crime over the previous year. You can see if crime has increased or decreased where you live and what type of crime has the greatest impact in terms of volume. To see your crime map follow the link below.
