Actions taken for Dereham Neighbourhood

Monthly update for the Dereham neighbourhood - May 2009
  • Eight men have been charged in connection with burglaries other than dwelling both in urban and rural areas.
  • There has been a significant reduction in household burglaries criminal damage, theft of motor vehicles, theft and violence.
  • The next period Insp Wheatley and the neighbourhood policing team will be concentrating on problem solving the current priorities. At the last Community Action Group (CAG) meeting the team adopted three priorities. The focus will remain in the Toftwood neighbourhood to plan for the summer holidays.

Actions taken against the previous priorities raised by the community:

1. Anti-social behaviour in Pilgrims Rest, Toftwood - since the date of the last meeting, there has been a significant reduction of calls about anti-social behaviour in the Toftwood vicinity.

There have been two incidents involving adults and youths on the estate, the first incident has been dealt with by restorative justice. At the second incident three people were arrested and two are going through court proceedings.

Dereham SNT have continued to work with partner agencies including Breckland Council and local housing associations. One family who have been causing problems on the estate has been evicted and moved to another area.

Routine police patrols have been carried out in the area and the neighbourhood policing team will continue to deter people from committing offences.

2. Anti-social use of vehicles within Dereham town centre - there have been 28 drivers dealt with by means of caution or fixed penalty notices for speeding in the town since the last meeting.

The drivers of vehicles in Cowper Road, who were causing anti-social behaviour by playing loud music and shouting, have been compliant and moved to another car park. They have kept music to a minimum and we have had no further complaints.

Crime Mapping

Norfolk Constabulary has introduced crime maps so you can see the levels of crime where you live. In comparison with most other police services, Norfolk records very low levels of crime. The crime is categorised on a map of Norfolk according to burglary, robbery, vehicle crime, violence, anti-social behaviour and all crime. Simply type in your postcode or click on the map to see the levels of crime in your district and ward. The maps are updated monthly and compare recorded crime over the previous year. You can see if crime has increased or decreased where you live and what type of crime has the greatest impact in terms of volume. To see your crime map follow the link below.
