13th Jan 2009 19:00

The Next Community Action Group (also known as CAG or SNAP) meeting is on the 13th January 2009 at 7pm at Breckland Council Offices, Dereham. All CAG Meetings are open to the public and provide an opportunity for the public to voice their concerns about issues in their neighbourhood. Representatives from local agencies, eg Neighbourhood Wardens, Housing Officers, Local Councilors, Education Authority and Police. Three priorities are then chosen from the issues raised and an action plan deveoped to assist you in dealling with your issue. At the next CAG meeting a report is given at the meeting about what action has been taken. These meetings are an opportunity for local residents to have a say about issues in their area which affect them most and get support in dealling with them.

Actions taken for Dereham Neighbourhood

Anti-Social Behaviour, Bullock Park
Since the SNT has been working on this project there have only been 2 crimes recorded at the venue in 4 months (two broken roof tiles). There have been no 'calls for service' to partner agencies during this period. Architectural liaison officer has been consulted and has provided the parish council with a comprehensive break down of crime prevention measures. The gate to the premises is now being secured each evening and this has affected the use of the area. A CCTV upgrade has been suggested and the council are considering this. The parish will replace some of the equipment at the park but will aim at the older youths' and find another location for the infant play area. We have surveyed the local youths who use the park and have passed to the Parish council their views and requests. Parish council represented at the meeting and did not object to the priority being closed.

Anti-Social Behaviour, Church Street, Litcham
Patrols and street surveys have revealed that the problem was isolated to a few individuals who quickly appreciated that they were having an adverse affect on the residents. Since the start of the priority there have been no further calls for service to either police or Partner Agencies.

Youth Engagement
The two month period saw the SNT Partnership involved in Youth Parliament and Community Champions projects. There were a series of school assembly deliveries and a survey conducted (Am I Bovvered) to solicit the views of the youths'. Halloween and Bonfire night were also policed under this umbrella and we were able to report that those youths on ABC's were all visited and reminded of their pledge. Crime and Calls for service have been dramatically reduced over this period of time.

Crime Mapping

Norfolk Constabulary has introduced crime maps so you can see the levels of crime where you live. In comparison with most other police services, Norfolk records very low levels of crime. The crime is categorised on a map of Norfolk according to burglary, robbery, vehicle crime, violence, anti-social behaviour and all crime. Simply type in your postcode or click on the map to see the levels of crime in your district and ward. The maps are updated monthly and compare recorded crime over the previous year. You can see if crime has increased or decreased where you live and what type of crime has the greatest impact in terms of volume. To see your crime map follow the link below.
