Norwich Youngsters Fly High With Excitement

Posted: 27th Aug 2008

A group of Norwich youngsters have been given a close-up glimpse of the police's ‘eye in the sky' thanks to their local policing team.

Six children from the Earlham Larkman and Marlpit neighbourhood spent a morning with the Constabulary's Air Operations Unit at Norwich Airport as part of the summer holiday activities programme put on by the NR5 project, supported by the West Centre Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT).

During the event, held on Tuesday (August 26th), the children were met by Air Operations PC Ed Ainsworth who was their guide for the morning.

The lucky youngsters met some of the team members who work on the police helicopter and were able to ask questions about the helicopter and their past experiences.

After a brief safety talk the children were led out to the helicopter and none refused the chance to sit inside. One commented:  "The best part of the trip was sitting in the helicopter".

Inspector Russell Watkins, who arranged the trip, said: "This visit was put on to help us get to know some of the young people in our neighbourhood and vice versa.

"It is especially important to occupy the youngsters in the area during the summer holidays and we wanted to give them an educational trip and the opportunity to do something they wouldn't usually get to do".
