Policing Hailed A Success At A Series Of Summer Concerts

Posted: 7th Aug 2008

Local police have had success at keeping crime levels down during the summer concert season in Norfolk.

The annual concerts, held at Blickling Hall during the month of July, saw the organisers work in partnership with the police to keep crime to minimum levels and ensure that the events passed off peacefully.

Local Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNT) from Acle, Aylsham and Reepham, patrol officers from other areas, the Special Constabulary, other specialised units and private security teams were all involved.

As a result of police high visibility patrolling and a proactive stance to combat crime at the concerts, there were no offences or disorder recorded at the four concerts in 2008.

This is in comparison to last year, when the Blickling Hall concert season saw 16 drug offences, 2 assaults and 1 public order offence recorded.

Sergeant Beeson from Aylsham SNT said: "We took a very proactive stance this year making it a crime free concert for people to enjoy.  Last year's policing played an important role in this year's success, as people learnt their lessons last year and realised that we would take action if necessary".

Sergeant Oakenfold, who co-ordinated the police involvement this year, said:  "It was very much a team effort and it was extremely satisfying that everybody's hard work was rewarded with a trouble-free set of concerts, which enabled the general public to enjoy the events in a safe and friendly environment. The feedback received from the organisers and members of the public was very positive. "
