Actions taken for South Yarmouth Neighbourhood

Jetty Boys
There have been significant steps towards creating a long term strategy to tackle this problem; the biggest move has been the posting of a project manager by GYBC Regeneration Group to look at formalising a mid-term and Long-term multiagency strategy.  The Safety Camera Partnership have deployed speed measuring devises in the area so we can ascertain a true picture of the speeds of vehicles in this area, we are awaiting this information to be processed.  The PCSOs have continued patrols in the area, advising Motorists of the impact their behaviour can have on residents and moving vehicles on.   The Road Traffic Division of Norfolk Constabulary are still tasked to attend every Sunday evening and robustly police any offences.  The Crime Prevention Office has attended and posted vandal proof frames for information posters.  Even though we are currently not in the holiday season, there is still a number of vehicles visiting the area.

Crown Road

To gather a true picture of the situation a door knocking exercise was carried out trying to speak to as many residents as possible with Anti-Social Behaviour logs and ‘It's your call' leaflets being delivered.  If no residents were present a SNT calling card with our contact details were posted through the letter box.  The Mobile CCTV Van was deployed when available in the area to act as a visible deterrent.  Work has been carried out in setting up a Home Watch group within the area, this work continues and hopefully a group will be set up soon.  Named Offenders visited by Police Officers and Housing Providers and placed on an Acceptable Behaviour Contract with conditions such as not to associate with named people and not to enter certain areas.  Breaches of these contracts have been enforced with sanctions being imposed on the individuals by their parents.  Daily Hi Viz patrols have been carried out to gain intelligence on who was causing these issues but also to deter groups of youths from hanging around in the area.  From information gained from the above meetings have been held to look at progressing ASBOs but at present there is not enough evidence.  A number of Youths have been ‘Stop and Accounted' (asked what they are doing/present in the area) and ‘Stop Searched'.  We are still receiving reports of Anti-social behaviour in this area but we are also receiving reports that the situations has improved.  Several of the youths have been referred for diversionary tactics such as the boxing scheme we run and other organised activities.

A deep clean was carried out of the area by GYBC including back alleys and passages.  South Yarmouth SNT have conducted daily Hi Viz patrols of the area and robustly policing any offences such as cars obstructing rear passage ways, with a number of £30 fines issued.  PCSO George has canvassed residents of the area and the first residents meeting will be held on the 29th of January.  This group will then channel their views into a more strategic group of strategy bodies which has been set up to look at the issues within this area.  South Yarmouth SNT also executed a drugs warrant on the Waverley Hotel which resulted in several hundred cannabis plants being seized and associated growing equipment.  SNT has carried out residents questionnaires to focus on issues, but the impact of this work on this area will be easier to measure after the first residents meeting.

Crime Mapping

Norfolk Constabulary has introduced crime maps so you can see the levels of crime where you live. In comparison with most other police services, Norfolk records very low levels of crime. The crime is categorised on a map of Norfolk according to burglary, robbery, vehicle crime, violence, anti-social behaviour and all crime. Simply type in your postcode or click on the map to see the levels of crime in your district and ward. The maps are updated monthly and compare recorded crime over the previous year. You can see if crime has increased or decreased where you live and what type of crime has the greatest impact in terms of volume. To see your crime map follow the link below.
