Actions taken for Watton Neighbourhood

Monthly update for the Watton neighbourhood - May 2009
  • There has been a 12% reduction in crime compared to the same period (1/4/08 to 9/5/08) last year.
  • The priority for anti-social use of vehicles has been drastically reduced.
  • Cop Cards, initiative to increase communication between the police and the young people of Watton.
  • New SNAP priorities are traffic related and not crime or anti-social behaviour. This shows that members of the public consider Watton to be a safe place to live.
  • Watton Police Station is here to stay. The lease has been renegotiated for the next 5 years and improvements are underway.
  • Funding bid has been successful for obtaining laser speed devices for the Safer Neighbourhood Teams of Swaffham and Watton to assist Community Speedwatches with tackling speeding issues.

Actions taken against the previous priority raised by the community:

1. Anti-social behaviour caused by youths at Washington Drive, Carbrooke:

Over the past two months, the team has been working to resolve anti-social behaviour caused by youths in Washington Drive, Carbrooke.

The team held a street briefing on the estate to discuss the issue with local residents and listen to their concerns, conducted regular high visibility patrols and worked with youth inclusion workers to engage with some of the youths involved.

Crime Mapping

Norfolk Constabulary has introduced crime maps so you can see the levels of crime where you live. In comparison with most other police services, Norfolk records very low levels of crime. The crime is categorised on a map of Norfolk according to burglary, robbery, vehicle crime, violence, anti-social behaviour and all crime. Simply type in your postcode or click on the map to see the levels of crime in your district and ward. The maps are updated monthly and compare recorded crime over the previous year. You can see if crime has increased or decreased where you live and what type of crime has the greatest impact in terms of volume. To see your crime map follow the link below.
